We hadn't planned to do a chapter on the salvage of the wreckage. However, Good Fortune smiled on us February 26, 2020, and we made contact with the pilot who flew the helicopter than sling loaded the wreckage from Leo Canyon to the Payson Range Station helitack site. If Lance Stewart is agreeable and has the time and inclination to provided details, we are eager to devote a chapter solely to the salvage operation. Here are the questions we will be posing to Lance:
What was date & year of salvage operation(s)?
Was salvage completed in one day?
If not, how long?
Were you USFS Staff or a contractor?
Make and model of helicopter?
Number in ground crew?
Number in flight crew?
Photos?
Any unanticipated problems or issues?
Permits?
USFS Staff name(s)?
Did newspaper cover the operation?
